October 19, 1955 – July 9, 2024 Tom was not known for his athletic ability, but attempted athletic endeavors throughout his school years. Tom did, however, have an ear for music and joined the band. He played several instruments. Tom was the drum major for both Clovis High School and Eastern New Mexico University bands. In addition to his studies and extra curricular activities at ENMU, Tom met Alica (Reynolds) Norvell, who later became his wife. Together they have two boys, Thomas Vernon Norvell, Jr. and Carey Lane Norvell. Tom was a member of Highland Baptist Church throughout his adolescent years. He felt a deep calling to join the ministry. After graduating from ENMU, Tom and Alica moved out to California where he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Golden Gate Theological Seminary. Pastor Tom (as many knew him) served as an Associate Pastor at Capital City Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Fair Oaks. He pastored Living River Church, and for the last 22 years, Natomas Baptist Church. Craig Peterson introduced Tom to the Sierra Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society. During his membership of over 30 years, he served in various roles to include President of the Board of Directors, Vice President, Treasurer, and Director. Throughout his years in the Sacramento area, Tom officiated weddings and funerals. His reputation of being able to guide people through some of the most difficult life situations kept his calendar filled. He proved himself time and time again in being able to relate to people from all walks of life while helping them through their journey of grief. As proud as Tom was to serve in the church and officiate services, he relished being a father and grandfather. He would, without complaint, do anything for his two sons, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Tom was supportive of everyone. When he attended ball games for his kids and grandkids, he often needed reminders to stop cheering for the opposing team. He didn’t care; he was just happy everyone was doing well! As of July 9th, 2024, we are regrettably without guidance from Tom for whatever role he played to each of us. So, Craig, Tommy and Dawn and their family, Carey and Meaghan, Alica, Micheal, Dustin, and Drew Tamplen, Jerry, and several other relatives and friends will need to find our way together as Tom is laid to rest. |
